What's coming to Walt Disney World in the future?

Last night was the Resort and Parks Panel at D23 - a bi-annual convention held in California where they announce plans for the future of the company. There were so many amazing announcements that it was hard to keep up! I'm going to cover all of the other news in my next post but this one is specifically for Walt Disney World Resort in Florida since so much is happening there.

Magic Kingdom-

Right next to Space Mountain we will see a new coaster named TRON Lightcycle Power Run. It will be the same ride as in Shanghai Disneyland with a projected opening in 2021 for Walt Disney World's 50th anniversary.

Coming to Main Street is a brand new theater inspired by the Willis Theater in Kansas City in the 1920s. The theater will be a place to view world class shows.

EPCOT-

Ellen's Universe of Energy will be closing August 13, 2017 and will be transformed in to a brand new Guardians of the Galaxy attraction.

A ride based on the Pixar film Ratatouille will be coming to the Paris section of EPCOT. It will be in an all new area behind the Eiffel Tower. The Ratatouille ride will transform you to rat size and take you all through Gusteau's restaurant!

A brand new out of this world dining experience will be added next to Mission Space where you will dine with views high above Earth.

We can also expect to hear more about an EPCOT expansion in the future. They want to keep the original vision but add more of that Disney WOW factor by adding in more family, more Disney making it more timeless. The front of the park will be seeing a major change as well but it will be a little bit before we see more details on that.

Hollywood Studios-

Star Wars Land is now officially named Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. It will be opening in 2019. We don't have a specific date but we do know that they will be opening the one in California first. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge will be an out of this world area with two great new rides, Star Wars inspired restaurants and meet and greets with your favorite characters!

The Great Movie Ride will close on August 13, 2018 and will be transformed into the first ever Mickey Mouse ride. It will be called Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railroad. The ride will take place inside of a Mickey Short and is full of fun surprises! It will also have more hidden Mickeys than anywhere else so keep your eyes peeled!

Toy Story Land will open in the summer of 2018. Here you will explore Andy's backyard from the point of view as a toy just like Buzz Lightyear and Woody. There will also be two new rides. Slinky Dog Dash - a family coaster and Alien Swirling Saucers.

Resorts-

This brand new Star Wars inspired resort will take you to a galaxy far, far way where you will be immersed in the Star Wars culture from the second you step foot inside until the time you depart.

A brand new Disney Vacation Club Resort is being built named Riviera Resort. The brand new resort will be between Hollywood Studios and EPCOT where you can view both parks night time spectaculars. It will be connected to the Skyway.

Other-

Minnie Van Service pilot program is coming to Disney's Yacht and Beach Club. The Minnie Van Service is much like Uber and Lyft in that it provides point to point transportation. Your Minnie Van will be driven safely by a Disney Cast Member. The program launches this summer and will work in conjunction with the Lyft app.

Disney Skyliner is being added high above Disney property and will connect Art of Animation, POP Century, Caribbean Resort and Riviera Resrot to EPCOT and Disney's Hollywood Studios.

That's all of the Walt Disney World news I have for today but make sure to subscribe to my blog so you can keep up with all of the changes!
